Over the past two decades, Drupal has become a preferred solution for enterprise-level content management and digital experience platforms, thanks to its strong technology base. In addition, its success stems on a well-organized open-source ecosystem, an active community, and contributions from amazing developers around the world. Together with Insights from Dries Buytaert, Founder and Project Lead of Drupal this keynote will explore Drupal’s evolving strengths, with a focus on recent innovations that simplify the creation of flexible software solutions. The introduction of the "Recipes" approach has made this process more efficient, contributing to the development of the new "Drupal CMS". Drupal CMS is designed to be both powerful and user-friendly, offering a strong foundation for small projects while providing the scalability needed for larger, more complex ones. In addition, a message from Tim Doyle, CEO of the Drupal Association, will shed some light on the recent projects and the organisational structures behind the Drupal Association aiming to empower local communities to thrive. This KeyNote will discuss Drupal's ongoing impact on the web and its potential for the future, giving insight into what’s ahead with Drupal CMS and the Drupal Community

We all need to work with clients that need things done. Like in every human relationship, sometimes you need to make compromises. This session is about the confrontations when things don’t work out as planned. When it’s about money and about delivering what was promised — and when you can’t. This session is the follow from Imre Gmelig Meijling’s talk ‘Who cares about Drupal? How to win the hearts and minds of businesses’ at Drupal MountainCamp 2019. It shares real-life examples from smaller and enterprise projects and ways to make those compromises. Including analogies with Star Trek and Back To The Future. ‘For good or for worse: making happy client relationships’ rated no. 5 in the DrupalCon Lille 2023 Attendees Satisfaction Survey.

Whether you are a developer, a project manager or a business owner, we all need to work with clients, often in person or online. Clients that need things done, putting pressure on, being happy, being unhappy, getting the most out of your project. Like in every human relationship, making websites calls for compromises and the need to give and take, by all of us, including your client. This requires essential ingredients of understanding, openness, passion and creativity which are key in making software development a success and ensuring happy relationships. Which often seems quite hard to achieve. How do you do it? This session is about the confrontations about contracts and when things don’t work out as planned. When it’s about money and about delivering what was promised — and when you can’t. And about those uneasy moments we all experience when we work with clients, for good or for worse.

This session is the follow up on Imre’s talk ‘Who cares about Drupal? How to win the hearts and minds of businesses’ at Drupal MountainCamp 2019. He also presented in 2016 at DrupalCamp Helsinki and DrupalCon Dublin. This follow up session will cover how to sell, manage and deliver digital projects with inexperienced Agile teams. It’s about contending contracts and how to divert from requirements and obligations, if you need to.

Imre will share more real-life examples from his 25 year experience as digital professional and tell you how to overcome fears by being open, fair and remaining tenacious in your methods and your client-relationships. It contains analogies with Star Trek and Back To The Future too. ‘For good or for worse: making happy client relationships’ rated no. 5 in the DrupalCon Lille 2023 Attendees Satisfaction Survey.

This session explores how Drupal was employed to meet the complex needs of two leading Swiss cultural institutions. The result is a holistic platform that not only showcases collections, exhibitions, and related programmes in an appealing manner, but also integrates ticket sales directly into the user journey and ensures seamless connections to external systems. Through Drupal’s flexible architecture and powerful integration capabilities, the project team created a digital experience that delights visitors and enhances internal workflows.

Participants will learn how the technical realisation, content management, and alignment with internal business processes were successfully achieved. This case study demonstrates how Drupal can serve as a powerful and future-oriented solution for cultural institutions.

How did such a progressive law come to pass in Switzerland, a country that clearly lags in public digitalization? What are the current challenges arising from this new legal foundation? And how does the "open source" principle impact other policy areas, even beyond digitalization?

Human brains are wired differently. In the tech industry, it’s particularly common to meet neurodivergent people – such as those with ADHD, Autism, or who identify as Highly Sensitive People (HSP). When given the right environment neurodivergent individuals offer superpowers many companies are dreaming of: hyper-focus, spotting patterns, empathy, strong intuition, and creativity.

It’s time to stop seeing neurodivergence as a deficit and start consciously managing the neurological setting of your workforce. Embracing neurodiversity not only helps address mental health challenges and improve business outcomes. It’s a competitive advantage in business. Companies that leverage the strengths of a neurodiverse team are better equipped to innovate, solve complex problems, and thrive in an ever-changing world.

Search is usually one of the features of a website that is underestimated and left at the end of the project.

You can install the Search API module, and you're done with it, right?
Well, things are more complex than that, and nowadays, users are getting used to powerful search engines like the ones used to search the Web. We expect search results in milliseconds, enhanced by AI, and targeted to us.

In recent years, a new generation of platforms and tools has emerged to provide this set of features; some are paid SaaS, but others are open source.

Typesense is an open-source search engine written in C++ that is fast, typo-tolerant, and easy to integrate into a Drupal website. With features such as search-as-you-type, faceted navigation, semantic search, LLM augmentation, synonyms, and curations, Typesense has what your users are looking for, and the Search API Typesense module (https://www.drupal.org/project/search_api_typesense) covers most of it.

In this session, we'll discuss installing and configuring a Typesense instance, using Search API to index our content to Typesense, and writing JavaScript code to build a fully decoupled, state-of-the-art search experience.

Good communication is essential to make humans happy: this includes frontenders, backenders and editors. This is also the case for ecosystems like the Drupal CMS, the Gutenberg editor and Javascript frameworks.

What if they could all talk the same language and become resilient to change?

We will demonstrate how GraphQL facilitates a seamless migration from the Paragraphs module to the Gutenberg editor in Drupal without disrupting the GraphQL schema or the decoupled frontend.

Key takeaways from this session will include:
- A comparison of the Paragraphs and Gutenberg editorial solutions in Drupal
- How to execute a migration between the two
- Note the differences between GraphQL and JSON:API for decoupling
- Insights into using GraphQL declaratively in the backend
- How GraphQL can be leveraged across CMS, JavaScript frameworks, and Storybook to enable Static Site Generation (SSG) with instant preview

Next.js has become the leading JavaScript frontend framework and the default full-stack choice for React developers. As a long-time PHP developer and Drupal enthusiast, I embraced modern JS frameworks, particularly Next.js, a few years ago. While I share some of the criticism aimed at “modern JavaScript,” I also recognize the critiques of “old-fashioned PHP” and “modern Drupal.”

That said, I believe the real value comes from learning across ecosystems and frameworks.

In this talk, I’ll provide an overview of Next.js, its concepts, and its pros and cons from a Drupal developer’s perspective. I’ll demonstrate how Next.js and Drupal complement each other, forming a powerful foundation for modern web experiences.

The session will include engaging coding examples, showcasing the developer experience, key concepts, and features of Next.js. I’ll also walk through building and deploying a full Next.js app with a headless Drupal backend.

SPARC is a Drupal-based initiative designed to maximize self-consumption of renewable energy by scheduling high-energy household appliances based on projected solar yields. This session will guide attendees through a practical approach to home energy management using open-source tools instead of costly smart devices or proprietary cloud services.

By downloading solar yield forecasts, SPARC intelligently schedules energy-intensive appliances like dishwashers and tumble dryers to run during peak generation times. All metrics are stored in an InfluxDB database, with daily schedules automatically published via Discord for easy access and household coordination.

At the core of SPARC’s functionality is the ECA module, a powerful engine that connects Drupal with various data sources, automates scheduling, and orchestrates notifications. This session will dive into ECA’s role as the integration backbone, showcasing how it bridges multiple systems to create a cohesive, semi-automated energy management solution.

Attendees will leave with insights on how Drupal can support a more sustainable, self-sufficient lifestyle, leveraging data to make renewable energy more accessible for everyday households.

Join us to explore the latest news on the Experience Builder initiative from the initiative leaders. The Experience Builder module will enable site builders without Drupal experience to easily theme and build their entire website using only their browser, without the need to write code beyond basic HTML, CSS, and templating markup (e.g., Twig). It will also enable content creators to create and compose content on any part of the page without relying on developers.

We will provide an update on the status and progress of the initiative. We'll also walk through our plan, provide a clear idea on what changes to expect, where are we, and where we need help.

In this session you'll:
- Learn what are the problems we're trying to solve within this initiative
- Get a sense of how we're planning to tackle there problems
- Explore upcoming opportunities for involvement

This compact and extremely participative session introduces its audience to Liberating Structures and Nine Whys -exercise.

Nine Whys can be used to uncover motivation, align teams around a common goals and create a shared understanding. It's a quick exercise that can be done with practically any amount of people. It does not require any special equipment and is a great exercise to do with for example a new development team or in kickoff.

The topic and method will be introduced and then we'll all explore together the question "What do you do for Drupal?" and try to find the collective motivation behind our contribution.

This talk explores the evolution of people and project management practices - from the ancient times to modern days. Who first introduced “data-driven” approaches in industry? And would medieval peasants have preferred Waterfall or Agile?
By examining how people and project management practices have evolved—and the reasons behind these changes - we can gain insights into how we should work today.

Many of us start our careers with Agile as the default project management approach.. While we focus on engineering, user needs, and product development, which are essential, it’s easy to overlook a critical question: Why do we work this way?
We’ve all heard, “We use Agile because it’s better than Waterfall.” Most of us are satisfied with this answer and continue with our sprint planning, 1:1s, and busy schedules. But have you ever wondered:
Why was there a Waterfall in the first place? What came before that? And did people organise into 5-7 people cross functional teams in past centuries?
This talk dives into the history of people and project management, tracing the practices that have shaped how we work today and the context, the time, in which those practices emerged. We’ll explore how people throughout history managed projects, structured work, and navigated change.

When you've been tasked with creating an HTTP API, the fundamental decision you need to make is which architecture to choose. Should your API be RESTful? What about GraphQL? or RPC? In this session, I'll explain the choices and how each works. We'll then look at their strengths and weaknesses in order to help guide your decision. By the end of this talk, you'll be well-placed to choose the right API architecture for your project.

Support is often seen as a secondary service in many agencies, frequently staffed by juniors, beginners, or interns – despite being the foundation of long-term client relationships. This session highlights why support is far more than just "problem-solving": it’s a strategic success factor that drives innovation, strengthens client loyalty, and builds trust. Together, we’ll explore how agencies can elevate support, allocate resources effectively, and empower their teams for sustainable success.

I will give a short introduction and explain the basics about how AI search / chatbots work. Then we will build a small chatbot during the talk using TypeScript and a bunch of libraries. There will be a public repo and all participants will be able to follow and try it out. You just need a laptop with a browser to participate.
To sum up, I will talk about the challenges and pitfalls we faced in the last two year when building large AI based chatbots and searches like Alva, the AI search for Kanton Basel Stadt:
